Mesakke Bangsaku

I’m not sure how to translate the title. The first word of it is in Javanese, while the second one is in Indonesian language (bahasa Indonesia). Together, it means something like “Oh, my poor nation”.

“Mesakke Bangsaku” is the third stand-up comedy special by Pandji Pragiwaksono, after “Bhinneka Tunggal Tawa” (2011) and “Merdeka dalam Bercanda” (2012).

This time, I watched the show with my youngest sister. Like the other shows by Pandji, the challenge began at the time we have to buy the tickets. It’s almost like a race, if you’re not fast enough you might wouldn’t get the ticket you want. It would be safe if we click (since it was sold online) at the exact minute the ticket start to be sold. So that’s what we did, and just a few hours later, the tickets we want (the cheapest one :p) were sold out.

The next challenge is how to get to the location of the show (which is about 12-15 miles from our house) the cheapest, fastest, most convenient way possible. Hahaha. It might not a challenge at all for most people. It just that it’s our first time going there by public transportation and it just sounds more fun to call it a challenge :p

Anywaay.. The day finally came. Desember 21, 2013. We got there at around 5 pm to exchange the online tickets with the real one (the trip was great by the way :D). The show was going to start at 8 pm. While waiting, we’re doing this:

I actually experienced some things for the first time that day. After the first time trip to that area with those particular buses, I finally get to try this food called Kerak Telor (I quite like it, but it’s not really my favorite). It’s our first time to go to that part of Taman Ismail Marzuki and watch a show in Teater Jakarta. 😀

So, the show began. Right on 8 pm, opened by Arief Didu (he’s one funny guy! :))). He might only performed for about 20 minutes and used around 10% of the stage (which he used as part of his bit) but he almost drained the audience out laughter. If Pandji was about to talk about how “mesakke” our nation is, then Arief was talking about him as the most “mesakke” comic (and that’s why he was choosen to be the opener that night). Lol.

Apparently, we had more stock of laughter than we thought or maybe we were just keep producing them again and again, because laughter was all over Teater Jakarta that night, until the very show ended.

The stage view of the location, where around 1200 audience sat and watched the show (and the price of the ticket for each stage :p)

That was my sister’s first time and my second time watching live performance of stand-up comedy special, both by Pandji. I personally feel that there were some improvements than the first one I watched. The material, the way Pandji brought the whole set. As before, I learned somethings from that night show. About Indonesia, about us as a nation and about myself.

The funny thing is, listened about how “mesakke” our country is, made me love it even more. I think that just what comes out from the ability to laugh ourselves. Not to hate ourselves or deny our own flaws, but to accept everything and learn to love ourselves as what we are, while trying to be our better selves.
