Welcoming March

I just decided to start a new strategy on my last post, then the next week I forgot to post at all -_-”

So, here comes March, and this is my post to welcome the new month.

It’s not always easy to deal with changes, but changes happen so there’s no other way than learning to deal with it.

I adapt, with my own way and time, to all changes in my life.

I cried and laughed through some of it. I felt uncomfortable and scared. Then I got used to it, and everything is okay again, if not better.

One thing for sure, I grew. I became a person I would never be without those changes. Mostly a better one. Someone with more perspective and understanding. With more patience and empathy. I became more sensitive with things I didn’t realize before, more grateful of precious things I used to take for granted.

I learn to be stronger, to have more will and determination.

I’m not saying that I’m perfect now. That it would be easy to face any change and hardship from now own.

I just learn that no matter how hard things get, it will be okay again in time.

Changes are fine. See you February.. Welcome March! :)

So, verily, with every difficulty, there is relief: Verily, with every difficulty there is relief.

Life Without Limits

Inspirational is a good word to describe this book. Though it might be not enough word. Because it needs more than words to describe a Nick Vujicic, a man who goes from no limbs to no limits (as mentioned in his website).

Nick was born with a condition called phocomelia, which left him with no limbs on both hands and legs. Just by seeing him, you will know that life must be hard for him. He must be facing so many difficulties and limitation in his life. So how could he be so happy? How could he love this life so much?

That is actually what Nick tries to tell through the book. If he could be happy with his life, with the way he is, than everybody can too. And he share the how in the book.

Every single soul in this world were created with their own purpose. That’s the first point of this book. God created each of us with a certain details and conditions that will fit perfectly with what we were created for. God has a perfect plan for all of us. There’s no mistake or accident. It’s all meant to be. And it’s all meant to be good.

Realizing that, Nick manage to get out from his struggle in his younger age. He stop being depressed and start looking for the purpose of his life.

In his journey, he not just found, but also accept and love himself. He grows a lot of faith, he becomes full of hopes, and passionate in changing not only his own life but also lives of others.

By sharing his journey, and some amazing stories from amazing people, Nick inspire other people to believe. In themselves, in God and all the limitless possibilities that anyone could achieve in life.

Some of what he wrote in this book might not be a new thing. But “hearing” it from Nick makes me see it in a different way. It makes me feel it more, take it deeper in my heart and mind.

Nick reminds me to be thankful for what I have instead of being overly sad about what I don’t have. That behind every “limit” there are abilities. Behind every hardship there are strength and greatness that are waiting to be found. That there are beautiful life waiting for you if you never lose hopes and keep trying. That there’s always a way and the only thing that limit you is yourself and your own way of thinking.

You are special. Your life is a gift from God. It means something not just for yourself but also to the world, to the life of other people. God loves you and you should love yourself too.

I think everyone that is having a hard time right now, that is unhappy, desperate, feeling angry, even hate their lives should read this book. Also everyone that think that their lives are useless, pointless, or just wasting it out of ignorance and laziness. Or simply just everyone.

Here are some videos of Nick. See for yourself how wonderful he is. :)

Berani Mengubah

This post is about the first book that I finished this year. I started reading it at the end of 2012. It took a pretty long time I know. I haven’t really read many books lately. This is exactly why I made the book list.

So I finally finished a book. A good one too. It titled “Berani Mengubah” (dare to change) by Pandji Pragiwaksono. The book basically tells about how we should be doing something to create change instead of only demand it to happen. To be more specific, how we can change Indonesia.

The book reminds me of one of my favorite quotes:

“Be the change you want to see in the world” -Mahatma Gandhi

I do think that proactivity is one of the most important mentality anyone should have. Being proactive means taking a full responsibility of your life. Believe that you can make things happen, not just blaming everyone or everything else for what happened to or around you. It means taking control of yourself and all the potential in it to create some action towards change rather then just complaining or waiting for the change to happen.

Proactivity is one thing that you should have to be able to create change. Once you believe that you have the power, the next thing you need to know is how to use the power. What could we actually do for Indonesia? This is what the book then try to answer.

Berani Mengubah

To change something, we first of all have to understand about its condition. First four chapters of the book mentioning the area of knowledge that we have to learn in order to change Indonesia, from politics, law, economy, to the history, characteristic, and the development of the country so far.

All those knowledge will open our eyes, help us understand what is really going on in Indonesia, the reason behind events and decisions our government makes, how things works and influence other things. Then we can see what kind of problems Indonesia are dealing with, how we could help solving them, and which part we could change to be better.

One thing you should know about Indonesia is its wide diversity. It is the biggest archipelago in the world with ten of thousands of islands spread between  Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean. There are around 240 millions people in Indonesia with all kind of differences in culture, religions, believes, educations, views and way of thinking. The problem is, most Indonesian people still having a hard time to accept and appreciate those differences. Some to the level of hurting their fellow Indonesian. Just because they’re different.

To be more open to new and different things. To understand before hate. To not see differences as threats but more as a natural thing in life that we can even make a good use out of. To live side by side and work together in harmony despite of any differences. Those are things that Indonesia have to learn to be able to move forward. To create unity in diversity not to force an uniformity. That’s what the book talk about in its next chapter.

Of course we can’t do everything. That is why, by showing examples of some Indonesian heroes, those who are already out there doing amazing things and creating changes, it said that we better focus on the thing our heart lean into the most. Our calling. Our passion. That way we can create more change. Consistently generating a significant impact.

The book also mentions about being known internationally. Because, by then we could bring greater impact to more people. We could give and contribute more as the  part of the world community. Indonesia would also be acknowledged by the world.

“Berani Mengubah” gave me basic insights and knowledge to start creating changes. It contains so much in 198 pages. The words Pandji used in the book are easy to understand. But like what he said in the last part of it, it’s time to act upon what you read. It’s not easy to create change. It takes courage. And that’s what the title of the book is all about.

I also like to quoted a poem from W.S. Rendra that are written in the last page of the book:

Kesadaran adalah matahari

Kesabaran adalah bumi

Keberanian menjadi cakrawala

Dan perjuangan

Adalah pelaksanaan kata-kata.

Welcoming 2013

On December 2010 I couldn’t wait to quit my former job, so I’m wishing hard that the last day of the year would come as soon as possible, since that was the day I could officially quit.

I enjoyed 2011 so much. There were so many great things happened that year that I feel kinda sad when it ended.

2012 was sort of in the middle of it. I’m not really looking forward to it to end but I’m also not that sad that it will end in a few minutes now.

2012 was a year that  I learn a lot in. More changes that I had to deal with. New ways of seeing things and more understanding of some things that I might not even realize about before. And at the same time a bunch of new stuff I don’t understand, that makes me want to learn even more. I’ve come to this new level of sensitivity, that is hard to handle at first but actually make things easier afterwards.

There were lots of new things that come in my way without a warning. Some were exciting, some were shocking. Most were overwhelming.

I lost my spirit on improvement not so long after the year started. I stopped caring for a while, especially about my life. I stopped doing things that usually excites me. People come and go. Days passed by just like that. I felt tired and sad. Then somehow it was back. I started to get excited about things again. The sparks is so small I was afraid that it’s going to be gone anytime soon. But apparently it decided to stay. Slowly growing even bigger.

Then December came. It’s the month when everything feels normal again. And by normal I mean cool! I started the month by going to a workshop about hydroponics. A week after that I was enjoying this amazing show called INDONESIA:.  Two worth-to-watch Indonesian movie were start playing this month: “5 cm.” and “Habibie & Ainun” (I’ll add the link as soon as I finished writing the review). And I get to watch both of them! Both movies had been watched by more than 1 million viewers and still increasing. So proud! :)

I also started to write on my blog again. Not just one post but-after this one published-six posts in one month. I know it doesn’t sound much. But after no post at all for months, it really is a good progress for me.

At the end, I have to say that I’m grateful for this year. For all the lost and findings. For the hardships and happiness. For each changes happened in it. No matter how hard some of the changes were (or still are) I believe that each was necessary. I know that it was necessary.

Now that the year is about to end, another year is coming. A whole year to live in if I’m lucky enough. I’m actually pretty excited about 2013. My wish is to fill each day better than the day before. To enjoy each moment, make the most out of each second I got. To create more, give a lot more to a lot more people. To not forget to love myself first.

One of the thing that I wish I have done more this year is reading books. So I’m planning to read more books in 2013. To make it more exciting, I’m making this one page on my blog that is going to list every book I have finished reading that year. I asked my sister to do the same thing so we could share what we’ve read,  and motivate us to read even more. Feel free to join us. :)

I know it’s not the year that is important, it’s how we live every single time in our life with all we have. And that’s what I’ll keep learning to do, hoping to get it done better than before. This year, next year, and years after that.

2013, I’m ready to welcome you. Looking forward to have more good surprises and write some awesome stories in each of your pages. Bismillah.

“Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson-

Next Chapter: 2011

A new beginning is always exciting. It’s a chance to put all the bad things behind and start over with a clean slate. New year is one of the moments to have a new beginning.

Of course everyday could be the new beginning, like this quote said:

You have a clean slate every day you wake up. You have a chance every single morning to make that change and be the person you want to be. You just have to decide to do it. Decide today’s the day. Say it; This is going to be my day.

~Brendon Burchard – author, motivational speaker

And we don’t need to wait until new year to do some changes in our lives or to be a better person.

But hey, new year isn’t coming everyday. A new year title would help to give us a better sense of starting a whole new chapter or even a completely new book. It’s a new day,  a new month, and a new year at the same time, it’s a perfect time to add more new things to it. Well, it’s a perfect reason to make it a perfect time 😀

I never really make any goals or resolutions every new year, until last year.  I read this book by Jack Canfield called “The Success Principles” and decided to write a list of my dreams and make goals out of it. I start reading the book by the end of 2009, so it just feels like a great way to welcoming 2010.

I was writing all my dreams, what I think I want to have, do, achieve, and be at that time. I made a goal for each dream. I made steps to reach the goals and plans to do each steps. I divided the goals into years then into months and divided the steps into weeks and days.

It might not be perfect. The goals, the plans, the steps. I might missed some of the steps or decided to eliminate some goals in the process.

So did I reach all the goals from last year? No.

But did it helps me to have a better year? Yes.

It makes me believe that I can do a lot more than I thought I could in ways that I never imagine before. It makes me want to do more, to make more of my dreams come true. It makes me believe that I can have, do, be anything I want in life, that I can be the change I want to see in the world, that I can create the life I want to live.  With God permission, if I just put my mind, heart, and action to it, I can.

I’m not always this positive of course. But it definitely helps me to feel more of it. I also get to have, do, and be more than I would if I haven’t make the list in the first place.

I glad I made the list. I glad I put it into goals. And for this year, I’m going to make another goals, renewing the one I have made to be precise.

Like I said, new year is a perfect reason to create a perfect time to do some changes, to make and reach more goals, to make more dreams come true. We have passed 2010 with all the failure and glory we made in it. We’ve made mistakes and (hopefully) learn from it. We’ve experience good and bad, sad and happy, ups and downs. Now it’s time to start a new chapter, where we can create a new story, put anything we want in it, be prepared for anything that could happen along the way, and enjoy the ride.

We don’t need to wait until new year to do some changes in our lives, but while it’s here let’s use the moment, let’s make it the day to start making that change and be the person we want to be.

We have passed 2010 and all the story in it.  Next chapter: 2011.
